Foundation of the Program
Orientation
Since 2007, the Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Universidad Veracruzana has been oriented towards fundamental and applied research, in the different branches of biomedicine.
Justification
Biological and Biomedical sciences have a well-established trajectory in Mexico, with a wide range of opportunities available for study and Postgraduate Programs. For the most part, these programs can be studied at highly renowned and prestigious institutions such as the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). For instance, the IPN offers PhDs in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Plant Biotechnology, Pharmacology, and Genetics and Molecular Biology.
In addition, Universidad Veracruzana offers several college degrees covering a wide range of fields such as Biological Sciences and Medicine, Technical studies, Healthcare Sciences and Biological-Agropecuary Sciences. Some of these include Biopharmaceutical Chemist, Agricultural engineer, Clinical Chemist, Surgeon, Nursing, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine program, and many others. Given the wide spectrum in biological sciences and its relation to biomedicine, we believe in the need to encourage collaboration between both disciplines to foster further research in this area. The Universidad Veracruzana´s 2021-2025 Work Programme recognizes the importance of training highly skilled professionals and knowledge development, in response for social issues and demands of the Veracruz State through the linkage with social actors.
The Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences has been oriented towards research, envisioning a wide field of labor for graduates which covers a range of job opportunities including: Applied research, Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching, Administrative management and Consultancy. Such activities can be developed in both public and private institutions.
Vision
The DCB is a Graduate program of international competence, in which Basic and Applied research is develop in order to contribute to health care issues among the population. Our program prepares outstanding professionals capable of joining the workforce in the private sector and governmental institutions, conducting research in biomedicine as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Mission
The DCB was created as a result of a group of outstanding professors whose mission was the training of professional human resources and fostering development, application and dissemination of knowledge in the biomedical field for the benefit of our society.
Objectives
- To train outstanding researchers, with the ability to create knowledge, identify and resolve issues in the field of biomedicine using a multi- and interdisciplinary perspective.
- To train researchers with a high level of excellency, who will be able to impart undergraduate and graduate Teaching in courses related to the biomedical field.
- Promotion of Scientific research in the biomedical field contributing to the resolution of current problems affecting our society.
Goals
- Achieve a terminal efficiency of at least 70% in our graduates by generational cohort
- Increase the stays of international research of students to 30% by generational cohort.
- Specify a collaboration agreement per year with recognized institutions to carry out collective research projects.
The application consists of:
- Apply by a written document requesting admission to the doctoral program, attaching Curriculum vitae and undergraduate Official Studies Certificate.
- Legalized photocopy of the migratory document (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) and photocopy of valid passport.
- Legalization of the academic record by the educational institution of origin, the Mexican Consulate in the country of origin and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico.
- Equivalency of academic record issued by the Mexican Ministry of Public Education (Secretaría de Educación Pública).
- Three recommendation letters (At least one recommendation letter MUST come from the applicant’s faculty director or research mentor, while the remaining letters should come from a faculty representative who is familiar with the applicant’s work in the major field of study. It is important to use the recommender’s professional e-mail address).
- Applicants with English as their native language MUST prove proficiency in Spanish language corresponding to the SIELE S1 exam or equivalent.
