Justification

In today’s society, proficiency in more than one language is considered a key element for academic, economic, professional, and technical-scientific success, as well as for social mobility. Therefore, the primary objective of the Master’s in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MEILE) is to optimize the professional profile of teachers who facilitate and expand English language learning, adapting it to current and future social and productive demands.

The MEILE aims to train English language teachers who can respond to the needs and characteristics of various intertwined factors such as the social, economic, political, and educational environments that permeate the regional, state, and national contexts. The educational program is relevant and pertinent to the context in which it is developed as it addresses and is consistent with the specific characteristics of the discipline of teaching and learning English as a foreign language (TEFL).

The MEILE intends to professionalize teachers who promote English language learning, taking into account the pillars of 21st-century education, and at the same time, contribute to the integral development of students at all educational levels. The professionalization of these specialists in teaching English as a foreign language will be based on current teaching and learning methods and approaches, as well as theories that promote student-centered learning.

The MEILE is a relevant educational program that addresses a social need and is feasible as there is an expected growing demand for teachers seeking professionalization and for future graduates of undergraduate programs as part of their professional development. Additionally, the program has a solid faculty, and the Universidad Veracruzana provides optimal facilities and conditions for its implementation.

Mission

The Master’s program in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MEILE) has the mission of training critical, creative, innovative and purposeful professionals, prepared to optimize the teaching and learning processes at the various educational levels where they work. They will have the ability to effectively and efficiently use appropriate teaching materials and tools that respond to current and future educational needs within a framework of openness, respect, and tolerance. The misión was set in an attempt to promote equity, inclusion, the right to education, and environmental protection, by trengthening the formation of universal values in a globalized and intercultural context.

Vision

In the year 2030, the MEILE program is recognized as a quality program at a regional, national, and international level for being a leader in the training of competent teachers, in the creation and application of knowledge. Likewise, it is recognized as a Quality Postgraduate Degree, with validity from external organizations, which encourages the exchange of ideas, experiences, and innovative initiatives among members of the discourse community of specialists in English Teachinf as a Foreign Language, for improvement. and dissemination of teaching and learning processes in diverse contexts.

Objective

The general objective of this program is to contribute to the professionalization of English teachers through the development of didactic, methodological, and technological competencies that respond to the changing demands of training and academic development in the field of teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language.

Curriculum Objectives

To contribute to the professionalization of English language teachers in the country by developing didactic, methodological, and technological competencies that respond to the changing demands of training and academic development in the field of English language teaching and learning.

To promote equity, inclusion, and the right to education, strengthening the formation of universal values in a globalized and multicultural context.

To foster the exchange of ideas, experiences, and innovative initiatives among members of the discursive community of English language teaching specialists, to improve and disseminate teaching and learning processes in a variety of contexts.

Goals

To achieve these objectives, the following goals have been set:

  • To achieve a minimum graduation rate of 80%.
  • To enroll 100% of students in tutoring programs.
  • To have at least 30% of students present a paper annually.
  • To have 30% of students publish an article during their studies.
  • To increase the academic output of students and faculty related to the Knowledge Generation and Application Lines cultivated in the MEILE by 50%.
  • To organize at least one academic event per year.
  • To increase national and/or international mobility of students and faculty by 100%.
  • To achieve the application, in at least 90% of students’ professional intervention projects, of content and strategies related to current perspectives on language teaching, educational innovation, inclusion, and multiculturalism.
  • To achieve a graduation rate of at least 70% per generational cohort.
  • To maintain contact with at least 80% of MEILE graduates through follow-up actions.
