Durante su tiempo en Chicago, se gan\u00f3 la reputaci\u00f3n como uno de los bajistas j\u00f3venes m\u00e1s fuertes en la escena y realiz\u00f3 conciertos pagados desde la secundaria con m\u00fasicos como Jodie Christian y Von Freeman.<\/p>\n<p>Durante sus a\u00f1os universitarios, trabaj\u00f3 con grandes nombres como Tommy Flanagan, Eddie Harris, James Moody e Ira Sullivan. En 1987, John se mud\u00f3 a Nueva York, donde comenz\u00f3 a trabajar de forma regular con Bill Hardman y Junior Cook. Desde entonces, ha tenido colaboraciones con George Coleman, Jimmy Cobb y los saxofonistas Johnny Griffin y Eric Alexander ; Tambi\u00e9n ha aparecido junto a Etta Jones, Horace Silver, Ryan Kisor, Lou Donaldson, Milt Jackson, Benny Greene, Barry Harris y Brad Mehldau.
