«Inteligencia Artificial en la Universidad Veracruzana, Retos y Oportunidades»

Dr. Efrén Mezura-Montes is a full-time researcher and currently the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute at the University of Veracruz, MEXICO. His research interests are designing, analyzing, and applying bio-inspired algorithms to solve complex optimization problems. He has published over 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He has three edited books and over 12 book chapters published by international publishing companies. From his work, Google Scholar reports over 9,300 citations.

Dr. Mezura-Montes is an Associate Editor of the following journals: “IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation,” “IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence,” “Swarm and Evolutionary Computation” and the “International Journal of Dynamics and Control.” He is also an Editorial Board Member of the following journals: “Complex & Intelligent Systems,” “Mathematical and Computational Applications,” and the “Journal of Optimization.” He is a former Editorial Board Member of the journals “Computational Optimization and Applications” and “Soft Computing.”

Dr. Mezura-Montes is a member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Evolutionary Computation Technical Committee and the founder of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society task force on Nature-Inspired Constrained Optimization. He is also a member of the IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Society Soft Computing Technical Committee.

Dr. Mezura-Montes is a Level-III Mexican National Researchers System (SNI) member (only around 5% of the national researchers belong to this level). Moreover, Dr. Mezura-Montes is a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), a Board of Directors member and a regular member of the Mexican Computing Academy (AMEXCOMP), Vice-President of the Computer Science Mexican Society (SMCC), and also a Technical Committee member of the Mexican Science Council (CONACyT) Collaboration network on Applied Computational Intelligence.

Finally, Dr. Mezura-Montes has supervised 20 Ph.D. theses and 49 Master theses. He has also examined 12 Ph.D. and 49 Master theses in Mexico, Australia, Argentina, and India.
