Hojas pecioladas generalmente simples. La l\u00e1mina foliar presenta variadas formas y generalmente lobadas. Flores generalmente solitarias o dispuestas en pares. Br\u00e1cteas generalmente peque\u00f1as y alejadas de la flor o grandes y rodeando la flor. Tubo floral (hipantio) casi plano a campanulado. C\u00e1liz de 4 (5) s\u00e9palos; corola con 4 a 5 p\u00e9talos, alternando con los s\u00e9palos. Generalmente, m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os que los s\u00e9palos. Paracorola casi siempre presente formada por una serie de filamentos. De 5 a numerosos estambres ubicados sobre un androgin\u00f3foro. Los frutos son c\u00e1psulas generalmente dehiscentes. Comprende 19 g\u00e9neros con 700 especies, las cuales pertenecen mayormente al g\u00e9nero <i>Passiflora<\/i>.
