We invite you to participate in the 1st International Symposium and Training Course on Genome Engineering & Developmental Biology (editBio 2017) at LANGEBIO (Irapuato, Guanajuato). The main goal of this meeting is to bring together students and researchers (already applying or) interested in using genome editing tools to study the function of genomes during normal development and in response to environmental abiotic and biotic stresses, including diseases.
List of speakers:
Franciso Bolívar-Zapata – IBT-UNAM, México
Jim Haseloff – University of Cambridge, United Kingdom
Luis Herrera-Estrella – LANGEBIO, México
Xavier Soberón-Mainero – INMEGEN, México
Lluís Montoliu – National Centre of Biotechnology (CNB-CSIC), Spain
Félix Recillas-Targa – IFC- UNAM, México
Kimitsune Ishizaki – Kobe University, Japan
Denhi Schnabel Peraza – IBT-UNAM, México
Shih-Shun Lin – National Taiwan University, Taiwan
Alfredo Herrera-Estrella – LANGEBIO, México
Alfredo Cruz-Ramírez – LANGEBIO, México
Mario Zurita-Ortega – IBT-UNAM, Mexico
Jean-Christophe Breitler – CIRAD, France
Mario Arteaga-Vázquez – INBIOTECA-UV, Mexico
Symposium – Saturday, August 19th to Sunday, 20th
The two days symposium (Saturday August 19th and Sunday 20th) consists of oral presentations and a poster session oriented in providing a theoretical framework that will allow the participants to learn the foundations of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing system and its applications in functional genomics initiatives aimed at understanding biological systems, gene function and gene regulation, to tackle human and plant diseases and to develop biotechnological tools. Speakers will be selected from submitted abstracts.
We strongly believe students would greatly benefit from this Symposium and we will partially support undergraduate and graduate students by waiving the $750 MXN registration fee for a limited number of applicants. Apply in writing to editbio2017@gmail.com with the subject "Financial Support" stating your need for financial support. Preference is given to those submitting abstracts.
Post-Symposium Training Course – Monday, August 21st to Wednesday, 23rd (from 10 am to 8 pm)
The post-symposium Training Course will take place from Monday August 21st to Wednesday the 23rd and is limited to 20 participants. The post-symposium Training Course consists of dedicated sessions lead by experts that will provide hands on experience in CRISPR-Cas9 based gene editing in human/Drosophila cells, zebra fish and the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply by submitting an application to editbio2017@gmail.com
We are funded by the United Nations University Programme for Biotechnology in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNU-BIOLAC) to fully support (flight, lodging, meals and registration) 10 international students from Latin America. Submit your Abstract (see Abstract guidelines and submission instructions) to editbio2017@gmail.com no later than August 10, with the Subject «UNU-BIOLAC Application.
