Following the proposals of international organizations*, the Drug Demand Reduction refers to all actions undertaken by governments, educational institutions, health and justice, as well as by civil organizations interested in preventing population consumption and offer treatment to who already has abuse or addiction problems.
These actions include prevention and treatment addiction as well as the design of new models that respond to changes in consumption patterns and to the characteristics of specific population groups, public policy building and norms; human resources education and training; the adequacy of health services to the standards established by law and the evaluation of services.
The Drug Demand Reduction and other behavioral addictions is the baseline of the Department of Prevention and Treatment of Addictions of the ICS of our Academic Group “Drugs and Addictions: a multidisciplinary approach”, as well as the various research projects, intervention and bonding that are generated from it and in which researchers, academics and students are involved.
In accordance with the aforementioned, thematic fields or axes that follow from this LGAC are:
- Drug use prevention.
- Psychosocial aspects of drug use.
- Epidemiology of drug use.
- Treatment and rehabilitation of addictions.
- Illness and mental disorders linked to consumption.
- Health services and addictions.
- Legal and regulatory framework.
- Public policies and addictions.
- Use of ICT in the prevention and treatment of addictions.
- Disability associated with drug use.
- HIV and drug use.
*Institutions that are part of the United Nations Organization – the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization (WHO and PAHO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Drime (UNODC), International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD-OAS), among others.
