  Live From Xalapa: Let’s Talk
Jay Bildstein
June 21st marked the first airing of Let’s Talk, a radio program I am hosting with Remedios Sullivan. What is unique about this show is that it is the first such English language talk radio program broadcasting in the State of Veracruz. You can tune in every Monday evening to Mundo 610AM, from 9 P.M. to 10 P.M., for an hour packed with interesting guests and people calling in from around the world.

The goal of the program is twofold. First is to serve the needs of the people here in Xalapa by providing an outlet for the use of their English language skills. The City of Flowers is home to many universities, Universidad Veracruzana being the most prominent, a variety of institutes of higher learning and an endless array of cultural happenings. English has come into vogue here, as an indispensable learning tool, in the global village that is our world.

The second goal of Let’s Talk is to promote the richness of this city and state to the rest of the world. Although the program airs on local AM radio, it is transmitted worldwide via the Internet. You can click onto the program at http://mundodexalapa.com/mundo610.

We will seek to bring you compelling interviews with important and interesting figures, all while having fun. This is an exciting project. Remedios and I have been working on it for some time. As a person who studied Spanish at UV, I hope that our program will, in some small way, help all those students who are now endeavoring to master English.

A better world begins with better communication. Mexico as a whole and the State of Veracruz in particular have much to offer the world in terms of history, culture and academic achievement. It is our fondest hope that more and more people around the world will come to know the greatness that is the Athens of Veracruz. With that in mind remember to tune in, every Monday, to Let’s Talk.
