The Fear Factor
Remedios Aguirre Sullivan
Fear can keep us from doing many of the things we really would like to do. Think about it for a moment. Have you ever wanted to be the best dancer at a party? How about speaking another language? If you give it some thought, you will probably find that we are afraid of doing many things that we have the ability to do. The question remains how can we overcome the fear of doing them?

Jay Bildstein will be speaking to pupils studying foreign languages, on the fear factor in language acquisition and how it may be overcome. Bildstein will speak from experience as well as from his prior work helping individuals maximize their efforts in a variety of fields.

Said Bildstein “Fear is the single biggest factor holding language students back. It is common to meet people who study a foreign language, do well on class assignments and tests, yet virtually refuse to speak in their newly acquired language once out of the classroom. I’ve also seen smart students fail in class because they’ve become paralyzed by fear. This can be overcome and that is what I will be speaking about”.

Techniques will be introduced related to dealing with fear in general and how to apply it to learning a new language. A question and answer session will follow.
Jay Bildstein’s talk will take place on Wednesday October 8th at the auditorium in the Facultad de Administración y Contaduría, zona universitaria, at 12:30.
