Not
Too Early to Plan Your Summer Vacation

Yes,
we are still in April and yes school does not finish until the beginning
of July. However, to make your summer recess worthwhile, some careful
forethought and planning should take place. It is easy to put off
planning for vacation time, what with busy days spent going to class,
studying and perhaps working. We have to remember though the five
P’s, Proper Planning Prevents Pitiful Performance.
The difference between a summer spent milling around the house and
doing nothing particularly enriching and taking hold of the opportunity
to have new and exciting experiences comes down to our willingness
to plan.
The opportunities that summer recess presents are manifold. The vacation
period lasts more than a month, an amount of time that is not usually
available to people in the business world. Academia on the other hand,
is filled with generous time periods to utilize for alternative endeavors.
One opportunity is to work. I am not simply talking about menial labor
to help make ends meet, rather the type of work that is akin to an
internship. Contact companies or institutions that relate to your
chosen field of study and petition them for a summer job. Not only
will you make some money, you will have the opportunity to learn first
hand about the field that you are looking to enter after college.
This gives you the opportunity to combine the book learning of school
with the practical knowledge that actually comes from experience.
Another terrific opportunity that awaits you, should you plan for
it, is a trip of some sort. Understandably, many students do not have
much money to use for an adventure. However, with proper organization
and the pooling of money between like minded classmates, as well as
investigating the most economic ways to travel, your summer can be
filled with the experience of seeing the world and developing a broader
view of the human condition. Luckily, Mexico as a nation, is replete
with many wonderful archaeological sites as well as varied cities
and towns of historical moment.
Your summer will be whatever you make it. Start planning now. |
